Slip Stitch Lace

“SLIP STITCH LACE” – CROCHET PATTERN BY HILARIA FINA

In this crochet tutorial, you will learn how to crochet the lace mesh stitch. The tutorial includes a chart, written instructions, and a video tutorial. This crochet stitch involves repeating 4 rows and although it is not reversible, it is very similar on both sides.

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED

CHAIN (abbrev. ch)
YO and pull through the loop on hook.

SLIP STITCH (abbrev. sl st)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through stitch and loop on hook.

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET SLIP STITCH (abbrev. hdcss)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through stitch and through two loops on hook.

THROUGH BACK LOOP (abbrev. tbl)
The back loop is furthest away from you.

CROCHETING INTO THE BACK BUMP OF A CHAIN ⇒ VIDEO
When you turn your chain, you’ll see a small ‘bump’ on the wrong side of each stitch.

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  

Turning chain at the beginning of row does not count as a stitch.

START CROCHETING |

Start with a slip knot and make an initial chain with an odd number of chains + 1 turning chain.

For example, chain 11.

R1| starting in 2nd ch through back bumps, 1 slst across the chain.

R2-R4| 1 ch, turn,1 slst-tbl in each stitch to last stitch, 1 slst in last st.

R5 (lace)| 1 ch, turn, [ 1 hdcss-tbl, 1 ch, skip st] repeat to last stitch, 1 hdcss in last st.

R6-R8| 1 ch, turn, 1 slst-tbl in each stitch to last stitch, 1 slst in last st.

Repeat R5 to R8 until you reach desired size.

To finish, we crochet one more row exactly the same as the last row crocheted to maintain symmetry with the first 4 rows crocheted.
