Rosario Crochet Edge

“ROSARIO CROCHET EDGE” – FREE PATTERN

The Rosario edge creates lovely beads in a unique manner. It involves using the 5-stitch half double crochet puff around a treble crochet stitch. Furthermore, it easily adapts to various patterns, whether with an even or odd number of stitches. The specific number of stitches between beads can be tailored based on preference.

Stitches & Techniques Used

CHAIN
Yarn over and pull through the loop on hook.

SLIP STITCH
Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch and loop on hook.

TREBLE CROCHET
Yarn over twice, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch (4 loops on the hook),yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops on the hook (3 loops remain on the hook), yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops again (2 loops remain on the hook), yarn over again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook.

PUFF STITCH
All stitches are elongated in same stitch and then completed by joining at the top in last step. Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, [yarn over and pull up a long loop] repeat three times, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook at once.

ch = chain
slst = slip stitch
slst-tbl = single crochet in back loop
tr = treble crochet
dc = double crochet

STEP BY STEP PATTERN

Notes

Base: First, work a round of slip stitches crochet over the stitch you have; in my case, moss stitch.

Notes:

The raised texture of the border is achieved by working the stitches in the back loop. Work in the back loop for all stitches, except the stitch before the bead and the stitch that secures the bead, which are worked through both loops. Keep this stitch firm so the bead stays securely in place.

You can adjust the spacing (around 6 slst) according to the desired effect.

Start Crocheting

Single round (repeat sequence):

Step 1 | 5 slst-tbl.

Step 2 | 1 slst through both loops

Step 3 | Bead: work (2 ch, 1 tr) in the same stitch. In the space formed by the 2 ch and the tr, work (6 hdc) together, 1 slst in the next stitch through both loops, tightly to secure the bead to the single crochet base.

Repeat from Step 1 to the end of the round.
