STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED

CHAIN (abbrev. ch)
YO and pull through the loop on hook.

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. hdc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on your hook), YO and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.

DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. dc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and pull through the first 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), YO again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook.

CROCHETING INTO THE BACK BUMP OF A CHAIN
Usually you crochet in the right side of the chain. When you turn your chain, you’ll see a small ‘bump’ on the wrong side of each stitch.

FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. FPhdc)
YO, insert hook from front to the back and to the front again around the post (vertical bar), YO, pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on hook) and finish a hdc as usual.

BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev.BPhdc)
YO, insert hook from the back to the front and to the back side again around the post (vertical bar), YO, pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on hook) and finish a hdc as usual.

STACKED SINGLE CROCHET (abbrev. stacked sc)
When starting the row in double crochet you can chain 2 (counts as the first stitch) or work a stacked single crochet that mimics the look of the double crochet and creates a nice clean edge throughout your work.
The steps to work the stacked single crochet are:
Turn the work, DO NOT chain at the beginning of row. Insert your hook in first back bump, and make a single crochet. Insert your hook in the vertical bar, YO and pull up loop, YO and pull through both loops on hook, stacked single crochet is finished.

START CROCHETING |

Stacked sc at the beginning of row counts as a stitch. TUTORIAL

Number of rows in pattern repeat : 1

Reversible.

TO BEGIN: multiple 2 +1.

R1 | Starting in first ch through back bumps, 1 stacked sc, 1 dc to last stitch, 1 hdc in last st.

R2 | turn, 1 stacked sc, [1 fpdc, 1 bpdc] repeat until last 2 stitches, 1 fpdc in next, 1 hdc in stacked sc.

NOTE

To start with turning chains (count as st) instead of stacked single crochet, work as follows:

Start each row with 2 turning chains, turn work, skip first stitch and follow the instructions in braces as indicated in pattern. Crochet last stitch of the row in the top of turning chain.
