INSPIRATION + DESING
This is a pattern for you to make a Rustic Crochet Jute Bag. I love the feel that goods made of natural twine give. They are beautiful to look at, extremely strong and sturdy. Jute twine prevents it from stretching. The crochet stitches used are basic, making it beginner friendly.
Jute twine is rough and hard, and you may have some sore fingers if your tension is too tight. If you find it hard, try holding the twine in a different way for more comfort and keep the stitches loose. Aside from these issues, it is fun to crochet with it and worth making Crochet Projects with them

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED
SLIP KNOT
With about 15 cm of yarn, make a loop. Insert your hook through the center of the loop, draw the end of the yarn through the loop, and pull on the tail to tighten.
CHAIN (abbrev. ch)
YO and pull through the loop on hook.
SLIP STITCH (abbrev. sl st)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through the stitch and loop on hook.
HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. hdc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on your hook), YO and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. dc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and pull through the first 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), YO again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook.
CHAIN SPACE (abbrev. ch1sp)
To create a stitch within a chain space, just insert your hook into the space/hole/gap (underneath the chain) to make your stitch.
THROUGH BACK LOOP (abbrev. tbl)
The back loop is furthest away from you.
CROCHETING INTO THE BACK BUMP OF A CHAIN
Usually you crochet in the right side of the chain. When you turn your chain, you’ll see a small ‘bump’ on the wrong side of each stitch.
INVISIBLE FASTEN OFF
Cut yarn, pull the yarn tail through the last stitch completely and thread yarn tail onto yarn/tapestry needle. Skip one stitch then insert needle into the next stitch under booth loops of the second stitch of the last round. Next, insert needle back into the same stitch that the yarn tail is coming from but into the back loop only. This creates a closing stitch. Weave tail into wrong side before trimming.

NOTES
- This pattern is written in US terminology.
- Bag is worked from the bottom up in one-piece. First, in turned rows for the base, then in joined rounds for the body and the handles.
- When you crochet in rows, each row stars by turning the piece and working some chain stitches (know as the “turning chains”) to get the right height for the following stitches.
- When you crochet in joined rounds, you will close each round with a slip stitch into the first stitch of the round. The next round starts with one or more initial chain stitches (know as the “turning chains”) to get the right height for the following stitches and follows the same direction as the previous round.
- Turning chains at the beginning of rows count as a stitch.
TENSION | GRID STITCH
10 cm = 13 sts, 10 cm = 6 rows
