The celestial North Pole is the point where the imaginary polar axis of the earth would touch the sky, if it were extended. Polaris, for all practical purposes, is the celestial North Pole, being only one degree off this point and placed right at the end of Little Dipper. Its real name is “α Ursae Minoris”. It is call Polar because is the closest star to the North Pole, and, is getting closer and closer, it will happen that way until year 2.100. After that date, the pole will move away from it and will not be the Polar Star again within the next 25.780 years. Here you have our “Ursae”, so after 84 years, you don’t have to be worry about waiting almost 26.000 years more to be close to it.
