14 Sep Parker Mesh Hat
BEFORE STARTING…
The mesh hat, that must-have accessory, versatile and elegant, perfect for any season.
This design is ideal for everyday wear as well as for those moments when you want a special touch. You can add sequins or sparkles for a more festive or playful finish, adapting it to your style.
Start by forming the crown with a magic ring and double crochet stitches, the base that will give shape and structure to the mesh hat. Gradually, the openwork stitches will bring the pattern to life, setting the stage for the fans to become the true stars of the design, separated by double chains.
With each round, adjust the increases as needed until reaching the desired crown size. From there, move on to the body of the hat, worked in a single repeating round until reaching the desired height.
The final touch will be a round of slip stitches in the back loop, giving a delicate finish and defining the fans. Once finished, just cut the yarn, weave in the ends, and enjoy your creation… no blocking needed!

Stitches & Techniques Used
CHAIN
Yarn ove and pull through the loop on hook.
SLIP STITCH
Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch and loop on hook.
SINGLE CROCHET
Insert hook in stitch, yarn ove and pull up loop (2 loops on hook), yarn ove again and pull through both loops on hook.
DOUBLE CROCHET
Yarn ove, insert hook in stitch, yarn ove and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn ove and pull through the first 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), yarn ove again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook.
CHAIN SPACE
To work a stitch into a chain space, simply insert the hook into the hole beneath the chain and complete the stitch.
THROUGH BACK LOOP
The back loop is furthest away from you.
FAN STITCH
A fan stitch is a group of double crochet stitches separated by chains: it can be 2 dc, ch 2, and 2 dc, or 3 dc, ch 2, and 3 dc, depending on the pattern instructions.
INVISIBLE FASTEN OFF
This technique is used to finish off the edge neatly. Follow these steps:
Cut the yarn, pull the loop through the last completed stitch, and thread the needle. Skip the first stitch and insert the needle under both loops of the second stitch of the last row. Then, go back and insert the needle into the last stitch through the back loop. This creates a false stitch that results in a completely invisible join. To finish, weave the ends.

Skill level
LEVEL 2 – EASY
If you are looking for a relaxing project, this is what you want. These patterns are very repetitive. They use basic stitches and easy procedures.
Materials
- You can use any yarn you prefer, adjusting the hook size to match the yarn thickness.
- You will also need | Yarn needle, stitch marker, and scissors.
- Yarn Amount | For the sample, I used 30 grams.
Size: How to adjust it
Step 1. Crown diameter, which determines the size of the hat.
For a larger mesh hat, continue working increase rounds until you reach the desired diameter.
For a smaller mesh hat, stop before reaching the full diameter.
Step 2. Body of the mesh hat: Once the crown diameter is reached, continue working without increases, repeating the same round until the desired height is achieved.
Note: This method allows you to adjust the size even when using yarn of a different weight.
Sample reference (size M): The mesh hat measures approximately 15 cm in diameter.

STEP BY STEP PATTERN
Notes
- The turning chains are replaced by 1 single crochet + 1 chain, which count as 1 double crochet.
- The first fan of each round is always incomplete; it is finished just before closing the round.
- The fans are worked into the chain spaces, except in Round 4.
- On the increase rounds, add 1 extra chain to each column of chains between the fans. Example: in the sample, Round 8 has columns of 5 chains; Round 9 would have columns of 6; Round 10 would have columns of 7, and so on.
Start crocheting
With a 2.5 mm hook.
CROWN
To begin | ⇒Make a magic ring.
R1 | In the magic ring, (1 sc, ch 1) counting as 1 dc, 15 dc in the ring, adjust as needed. (16)
R2 (increase) | (1 sc, ch 1), ch 2, [1 dc, ch 2] x 15, join with sl st.
R3 (increase) | All stitches are worked over the double crochet stitches; (1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc), ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] x 7, 1 dc in first ch space, join with sl st.
To Keep in Mind
From now on, the fans are worked into the chain spaces, and the double crochets are worked over the double crochets of the previous round.
From Round 4 to Round 19, always start in the 2-chain spaces, moving to the beginning of each round with 1 slip stitch in the next chain.
R4 (increase) | (1 sc, ch 3, 3 dc), ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] x 7, (2 dc) in first stitch, join with 1 slst.
R5 (increase) | (1 sc, ch 3, 3 dc), ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2] x 7, (2 dc) in first ch space, join with 1 slst.
R6 (increase) | (1 sc, ch 3, 3 dc), ch 3, 1 dc, ch 3, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 3, 1 dc, ch 3] x 7, (2 dc) in first ch space, join with 1 slst.
R7 (increase) | (1 sc, ch 3, 3 dc), 4 ch, 1 dc, 4 ch, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), 4 ch, 1 dc, 4 ch] x 7, (2 dc) in first ch space, join with 1 slst.
R8 (increase) | (1 sc, ch 3, 3 dc), 5 ch, 1 dc, 5 ch, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), 5 ch, 1 dc, 5 ch] x 7, (2 dc) in first ch space, join with 1 slst.
BODY
From this point on, no more increases are made. Repeat the same round until the mesh hat reaches the desired height.
R9 / R19 | (1 sc, ch 3, 3 dc), 5 ch, 1 dc, 5 ch, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), 5 ch, 1 dc, 5 ch] x 7, (2 dc) in first ch space, join with 1 slst.
FINISHING
To finish the Mesh Hat, work one complete round of slip stitches in the back loop to settle the fans, define them, and prevent them from lifting.
R1 | Begin in the next st, 1 slst-tbl in each st until the end of the round.
Cut the yarn and finish with an invisible join.
Weave in the ends.
