STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED
CHAIN (ABBREVIATION ch)
YO and pull through loop on hook.
SLIP STITCH (ABBREVIATION: sl st)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through both loops on hook at once.
HERRINGBONE HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (ABBREVIATION: hhdc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull loop through stitch AND through first loop on hook (2 loops on hook), YO and pull through both loops on hook at one.
INVISIBLE FASTEN OFF
Cut yarn, pull the yarn tail through the last stitch completely and thread yarn tail onto yarn/tapestry needle. Skip one stitch then insert needle into the next stitch under booth loops of the second stitch of the last round. Next, insert needle back into the same stitch that the yarn tail is coming from but into the back loop only. This creates a closing stitch. Weave tail into wrong side before trimming.
A FRONT LOOP, BACK LOOP, BACK BUMP
Sometimes you need to work into just one part of a stitch. This might be a front loop (FLO) or the back loop (BLO).
Some instructions also call for working into the back bumps on the backside of a foundation chain.
BACK LOOP ONLY (abbrev. BLO)
The back loop is furthest away from you. If the crochet pattern says to work through back loop only (e.g. BLO), you will work into this back loop only.
FRONT LOOP ONLY (abbrev. FLO)
The front loop is the loop closest to you. If the crochet pattern says to work through front loop only (e.g. FLO), you will work your stitches just into this front loop.
BACK BUMPS
The back bump, or back bar, lies right behind the back loop of a stitch. Working into this spot leaves you with a visible line of stitches on the surface of your fabric.
Working into the back bumps along a chain creates a neater finish.

HOW TO CROCHET THE HERRINGBONE HALF DOUBLE
The Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch is so named because each stitch slants slightly to the left when is working in rows, but when crocheted in a spiral it creates an amazing texture that I love.
The Herringbone Half Double (hhdc) is a beautiful variation of the Half Double Crochet, really easy to make.
