“NICOLAS AMIGURUMI” – CROCHET PATTERN BY HILARIA FINA
También disponible en: Español
AQUÍHe sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
Clement Clarke More. A visit from St. Nicholas
INSPIRATION + DESIGN
In this pattern, a variation of the single crochet stitch is used, wherein instead of yarning over the hook as in a conventional single crochet, the yarn is passed under the hook. The pattern is written using the abbreviation for the regular single crochet, but if you prefer, you can crochet it using the crossed single crochet stitch. The appearance of the stitch will vary; instead of the traditional ‘v’, it will form an ‘x’

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED
CHAIN (abbrev. ch)
YO and pull through the loop on hook.
SLIP STITCH (abbrev. slst)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through stitch and loop on hook.
SINGLE CROCHET (abbrev. sc)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (2 loops on hook), YO again and pull through both loops on hook.
SINGLE CROCHET CROSS STITCH
The Single Crochet Cross Stitch is a regular single crochet stitch with a slight variation, instead of placing your yarn over your hook as you would for a regular single crochet stitch, you are going to yarn under.
DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. dc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and pull through the first 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), YO again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook.
INVISIBLE FASTEN OFF
Cut yarn, pull the yarn tail through the last stitch completely and thread yarn tail onto yarn/tapestry needle. Skip one stitch then insert needle into the next stitch under booth loops of the second stitch of the last round. Next, insert needle back into the same stitch that the yarn tail is coming from but into the back loop only. This creates a closing stitch. Weave tail into wrong side before trimming.
SINGLE CROCHET DECREASE (abbrev. sc2tog)
Insert the hook into the front loop of the first stitch and then directly also into the front loop of the second stitch that you want to decrease. You now have both front loops and the loop of your last finished stitch (3 loops on hook)
YO and draw through both front loops on the hook. YO again and draw through both loops on your hook to finish a single crochet stitch as usual.
CHANGING TO A NEW COLOR
You will change to another colour by joining in the new colour during the final step of the last stitch in the old colour as follows: work the last stitch in the old colour until the last two loops of the stitch are on the hook, then using the new colour, YO and pull through the 2 remaining old colored loops on your hook. The next stitch you make will be the first stitch in the new colour.
FRONT LOOP
The front loop is the loop closest to you.
CLOSING REMAINING STITCHES (THROUGH THE FRONT LOOPS)
Cut yarn, pull the yarn tail through the last stitch completely and thread yarn tail onto yarn/tapestry needle. Insert needle through the front loops only of each remaining stitch from outside to inside . Pull gently to close the gap.
