Known as well as The Maid of Orleans, Joan of Arc was a peasant that played an important role during the Hundred Years’ War in the Lancastrian phase. Saint and heroine of France, she died burnt at the stake when she was 19 years old.

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED

SLIP STITCH (abbrev. sl st)
Insert hook into the stitch, YO and pull through the stitch and also the loop on the hook in one go.

CHAIN (abbrev. ch)
YO and pull through loop on hook.

DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. dc)
YO, insert hook into the stitch, YO and pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on your hook), YO and pull through the first 2 loops on the hook in one go (2 loops remain on the hook), YO again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook.

CHANGING TO A NEW COLOR
You will change to another colour by joining in the new colour during the final step of the last stitch in the old colour as follows: work the last stitch in the old colour until the last two loops of the stitch are on the hook, then using the new colour, YO and pull through the 2 remaining old colored loops on your hook. The next stitch you make will be the first stitch in the new colour.

FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. FPdc)
YO, insert hook from front to the back and to the front again around the post (vertical bar), YO, pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on the hook) and finish a dc as usual.

BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. BPdc)
YO, insert hook from the back to the front and to the back side again around the post (vertical bar) YO, pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on the hook) and finish a dc as usual.

JOIN YARN WITH A SLIP KNOT
Make a slip knot from your yarn (do not place on hook). Insert hook into indicated stitch. Place the slip knot onto hook and pull the slip knot through the stitch. Take care to keep the knot on the back of the fabric. Work into the next stitch, or make the number of chains as indicated in the pattern.

This pattern is written in US terminology.
This sweater is crocheted top down in the round.
Changes in color should be made in the final YO of the previous stitch.
The sleeves are crocheted in the round after the main body is complete.
To join the round, slst into the first stitch (not the chain), then make a chain stitch and pull the yarn tightly, this will create a seamless join free look to the garment.
