“ESTEBAN PHONE CASE” – CROCHET PATTERN BY HILARIA FINA
También disponible en: Español
AQUÍIt is practical impossible to destroy the shield of Captain America, strong enough to withstand the incredible force of Hulk or to repel a Thor’s hammer hit. It is made of “vibranium”, a material that could only be found in Wakanda, homeland of Black Panther.
INSPIRATION + DESIGN
This simple to make phone case is made from a crocheted rectangle! It’s the perfect project for a beginner crocheter, no increasing or decreasing, or anytime you want to make a quick and easy project.
The bobble stitch is an all-around favourite for adding texture to crocheted items and it’s excellent when you need a thick material that will protect one of the most precious items in your handbag.
Since it only takes a few hours to make and it’s much more durable and protective than one of those hard, plastic cases that offer no padding, I do believe you will not only make this for yourself, but for your friends as well.
The pattern can be adapted to any size of flat electronic devices.

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED
SLIP KNOT
With about 15 cm of yarn, make a loop. Insert your hook through the center of the loop, draw the end of the yarn through the loop, and pull on the tail to tighten.
CHAIN (ABBREVIATION ch)
YO and pull through loop on hook.
SLIP STITCH (ABBREVIATION: sl st)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through both loops on hook at once.
SINGLE CROCHET (ABBREVIATION: sc)
Insert hook in stitch, YO and pull through the stitch (2 loops on hook), YO and pull through both loops on hook at once.
DOUBLE CROCHET (ABBREVIATION: dc)
YO, insert hook into the stitch, YO and pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on your hook), YO and pull through the first 2 loops on the hook in one go (2 loops remain on the hook), YO again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook.
BOBBLE STITCH (abbrev. bo)
A bobble is a number of stitches, half finished and all worked into the same st. Work each stitch until the last step, omitting this final step. Once the desired number of half finished sts have been completed, YO and then pull through all loops on the hook in one go to complete the bobble.
BOBBLE STITCH
Crochet a fundation chain with an even number of stitches + 1 turning chain.
Row 01. Starting in the 2nd back bump of the ch from hook,
sc in each back bump to end, turn.
Row 02. ch, sc in firts st,
5 double crochet half finished in the same stitch,
YO and then pull through all loops on hook in one go to complete the bobble,
sc in the next stitch,
[bo, sc] to end, turn.
Row 03. ch, sc in each st to end, turn.
Row 04. sc in the next 2 sts,
bo in the next stitch,
sc in the next stitch, [bo, sc] t to end, turn.
Row 05. ch, sc in each st to end, turn.
Repeat rows 02 to 05.
BACK LOOP ONLY (ABBREVIATION: BLO)
Instead of crocheting in the entire stitch which is both loops on the top of the stitch, you only go through one of the loops.
FRONT LOOP ONLY (ABBREVIATION: FLO)
Instead of crocheting in the entire stitch which is both loops on the top of the stitch you only go through one of the loops.
CROCHETING INTO THE BACK BUMP OF A CHAIN
Usually you crochet in the right side of the chain. When you turn your chain, you’ll see a small ‘bump’ on the wrong side of each stitch. Insert your hook under this back bump.
JOIN YARN WITH A STANDING SC
Make a slip knot onto hook then insert hook into indicated stitch, YO and pull through stitch (2 loops on hook), YO and pull through both loops on hook at once.
INVISIBLE FASTEN OFF
Cut yarn, pull the yarn tail through the last stitch completely and thread yarn tail onto yarn/tapestry needle. Skip one stitch then insert needle into the next stitch under booth loops of the second stitch of the last round. Next, insert needle back into the same stitch that the yarn tail is coming from but into the back loop only. This creates a closing stitch. Weave tail into wrong side before trimming.

- How do you adapt the stitch? To adjust the bobble stitch, the foundation chain must be an odd number + 1 turning chain.
NOTES
- This pattern is written in US terminology.
- In some parts “only back loop” (BLO) will be indicated.
- When you crochet in rows, each row stars by turning the piece and working some chain stitches (know as the “turning chains”) to get the right height for the following stitches.
- When you crochet spiral rounds, you continue to crochet directly into the first stitch of the previous round to star the next round. You should mark the first stitch of the round to keep track of where the round begins.
- This project is worked flat in a piece and then seamed at the sides.
GAUGE
- Gauge is not critical for this design, make sure it fits your phone or device.
