También disponible en: Español
AQUÍMarquise Emilie de Chatelet was one of the great minds of the Enlightenment era, scandalizing Paris of her time primarily due to her numerous lovers, including Voltaire. Besides French, she was fluent in Latin, Greek, English, German, and Italian. Additionally, she excelled in fencing, gymnastics, horseback riding, and had a passion for theater, opera, and playing the harpsichord. Her greatest passion lay in mathematics and physics. She even disguised herself as a man to gain entry into the French Academy, which did not admit women. She made significant contributions in the field of physics and is known for her translation and commentary on the works of Isaac Newton.
BEFORE STARTING…
The length of the initial chain depends on the size of your neck and whether you want to wear it with a low-cut top, a dress, or over a sweatshirt. It can be worn with the bow at the back or at the front, both options are equally beautiful.
The pattern is composed of groups of stitches arranged in a “V” shape. It combines 1, 2, or 3 double crochet stitches with 2 chain stitches, which are worked together in the same space. In the last row, the double crochet stitches will form a shell shape.
In order to add volume to the pattern, starting from the row 5, the double crochet stitches between the groups are worked in relief.

THE 2 KEY POINTS OF PATTERN |
1. HOW TO WORK THE FOUNDATION CHAIN
We will work the foundation chain through the back bumps to integrate it with the first row of double crochet stitches, achieving a perfect edge.
2. HOW TO REPLACE THE TURNING CHAINS
When starting the row in double crochet you can chain 2 (counts as the first stitch) or work a stacked single crochet that mimics the look of the double crochet creating a nice and clean edge throughout your work.
Below step by step of the Stacked Single Crochet (abbrev. stacked sc) VIDEO ⇒

Turn the work, DO NOT chain at the beginning of the row. Insert your hook into the first back bump

and make a single crochet.

Insert hook into the vertical bar of the single crochet, YO and pull up a loop,

YO and pull through both loops on the hook, stacked single crochet is finished.

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED
CHAIN (abbrev. ch)
YO and pull through the loop on hook.
CROCHETING INTO THE BACK BUMP OF A CHAIN
Usually you crochet in the right side of the chain. When you turn your chain, you’ll see a small ‘bump’ on the wrong side of each stitch.
CHAIN SPACE (abbrev. ch2sp)
To create a stitch within a chain space, just insert your hook into the space/hole/gap (underneath the chain) to make your stitch.
DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. dc)
YO, insert hook in stitch, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and pull through the first 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), YO again and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook.
FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. FPdc)
YO, insert hook from front to the back and to the front again around the post (vertical bar), YO, pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on hook) and finish a dc as usual.
BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET (abbrev. BPdc)
YO, insert hook from the back to the front and to the back side again around the post (vertical bar) YO, pull the yarn through the stitch (3 loops on hook) and finish a dc as usual.
