Abelardo Christmas Tree

PDF includes pattern, chart, and step-by-step video.

BEFORE STARTING…

If you’re looking for a Christmas project that combines charm and texture, this crochet tree pattern is for you. This guide will be your perfect companion: it includes written instructions, detailed charts, and a step-by-step video tutorial. It’s designed to help you enjoy the process and complete your project with ease and confidence.

The tree is worked in one single piece, from the base to the top, using short rows to create shape and volume. To achieve a finish that resembles knitted fabric, we’ll use slip stitches in the back loop only, paying close attention to tension to get an even, polished look.

Tiny bobbles made with the jingle stitch add texture and dimension, giving this design that magical touch that makes it truly unique. Plus, the combination of merino wool with a shiny acrylic thread featuring tiny sequins adds sparkles of light and a subtle, irresistible festive feel. Perfect for decorating gifts, garlands, or any special corner of your home.

This pattern is a two-in-one, you can crochet it in two different sizes.

STITCHES

CHAIN
Yarn over and pull through the loop on hook.
SLIP STITCH
Insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook at once.
Tension is crucial when working slip stitches. To make the stitch slightly looser, divide the slip stitch into two steps before finishing it: gently pull the loop upward, as if making a single crochet instead of a slip stitch, and then complete the stitch.
THROUGH BACK LOOP
The back loop is furthest away from you.
BACK BUMP OF A CHAIN
Usually you crochet in the right side of the chain. When you turn your chain, you’ll see a small ‘bump’ on the wrong side of each stitch.

SPECIAL STITCHES

CASCABEL
Cast on two loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through the first two loops on the hook (2 loops on hook), 1 slip stitch through back loop in the next stitch.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES USED

TURNING CHAINS
It is important to make the turning chain before turning your work so it keeps the correct tension and the edge remains even.
Make sure to always turn your work in the same direction.

SHORT ROWS
shape the tree, we will work with two types of rows:
Short rows: leave the last 3 stitches unworked.
Long rows: work again into the stitches left unworked.
When working short rows, small gaps often appear between them. To avoid this, we need to connect the short rows using the turning chains as support. This allows us to link each short row with the next one and keep a smooth, continuous fabric.
Work the connection as follows: insert the hook first into the turning chain and then into the stitch through the back loop; yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
